Orientation and Mobility

Ориентация с помощта на бял бастун    Students start instruction in all special subjects the moment they start attending our school.  Skills acquired by the students in orientation and mobility classes are of major importance for their development as independent persons. Instruction is done through individual lessons and takes into account the abilities, psychomotor development and needs of each student. It includes improving awareness of one’s own body, mental mapping of space, exploring small and large spaces, developing skills to use the other senses:  hearing, smell, touch. In order for the students to start walking independently at a later stage, using the white cane, they need to be able to determine adequately their position in relation to reference points in the surrounding space. After acquiring the necessary orientation and mobility skills students apply them to follow routes to a variety of destinations.
